Thanks.
I'll pass that on to my friend.

BTW, I had one flight in a Whale tanker. It was in the summer of 1967 and I was a midshipman first class on cruise on the USS AMERICA in the Mediterranean.
I was in a rear facing seat.
The cat shot was exciting to watch from that view.
I had to watch the landing reflected by the plastic covering of a gauge in front of me.
That was unnerving.

david,

if you need information for reasons of an official or legal nature, be sure to ask for the JAG Manual Investigation on the matter.

The info I referenced was from a summary taken from the Safety investigation, which is frequently the result of opinion offered to make operations less hazardous, and Not totally based on real and verifiable evidence. For such reasons, results of Safety Investigations are privileged and not for use except for Safety reasons.

these folks may be helpful in obtaining a report: Office of the Judge Advocate General (Code 15), Tort Claims Unit, 9620 Maryland Avenue, Suite 100, Norfolk, VA 23511-2989

David,
I'll email you what we have on the accident. We obtained all that was available via the freedom of information act a few years ago. We have put together a database of the facts and are available through our web site. Follow the "memorial" button on the menu under "personnel".

Al Rankin, Pres. A-3 Assn.

Is that report something I might be able to obtain from the Navy's accident investigation board or agency or command -- whatever name it might have?

as i recall fm reading the accident summary a few years back, there was a problem with engine anti-ice, causing one of the engines to lose thrust during takeoff.

This is all I could find about that, David. Not much, I know, and you probably already had it:

Wilkey, Perry Allen II
b. 3 MAR 1933 Jefferson Co., Ala
d. 29 OCT 1972 Killed in the crash of a Navy Jet
Gender: Male
Parents:

Maybe you can find them if you haven't already and ask some questions?

Does anybody in the organization have any information on an A-3 that went down in October 1972, reportedly in Colorado?
CDR Perry Allen Wilkey, Jr. was on board and killed.
A friend of mine was good friend of his and has wondered about the circumstances on the incident.
CDR Wilkey may have been USNR at the time as my friend believes he also flew for United AIrlines.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

David Dillon
CDR, USN (Ret.)

I'm writing a biography on my biological mother. She married a A3D pilot, William "Bill" Reyn (born in California). Bill was killed during a landing back in 59' 60' (sorry I need to get a firm date). Apparently he was "in the groove" ready to land but was asked to give way for a smaller plane low on fuel. Right after giving way, an instrument panel light came on. He attempted to land and his landing gear collapsed Bill Reyn and another crew member died when the plane flipped into the water after skidding across the flight deck.

If any of you knew him and have stories to share I would like to hear them, curtiswilley@rocketmail.com.

I am still looking for Allen Ward. We were stationed together on Guam with VAP-61 in 1964-65. I believe he was from Allentown, PA. I could be mistaken about that but it seems to ring true. If anybody has any knowledge of his whereabouts please contact me at the above e-mail or website. Thanks in advance for your help.
